Project1-FinalPresentation

Project1-FinalModel

The most interesting part of this model is the material we choose.
We choose foam board for the main material is because we want to clearly distinguish the timber stud wall inside the old house and those fencing and chain link are try to make them look real. We also used transparent plastic sheet to make the glazing, so people can see which area is enclosed, where actually connects to other area.
And you can see the model can be separated to three parts, an important reason behind. Although it makes the model hard to make, we still keep this design because it is the best way to look at the Gehry House.
the site, the new part, and the old house
from this model, we can see wt Gehry added to the old house, how the house originally looked like (although the roof and walls are modified by him, still can hv a rough concept of that), how the new combined with the ex. All of these can be clearly showed by the model.
Maybe this is not the best model with greatest model making skills, but we do think it represents Gehry House in the best way.

Project1-Drawings&Articles

Project Detail - shows Different materials that Gehry used and the size of site
the ground floor plan- those dotted line in the living room near the court represent exists wall and need to be removed...from this plan we can see Gehry built the new parts which wrap the old house and also changed the partition of  it for a better connecting between two.

This image captures the part i just mention above and you can see the quality of light, how light goes through the glazing of the new facade and then pass through the original stud wall to the living area..(timber stud is modified by removing the finished layer of old wall..which looks great)

the master bedroom on the 1st floor
the timber structure of the new extension build up connection with the old timber house and form a warm atmosphere together with the sunlight. although the two timber structure at the corner and kitchen look strange from outside, the interior quality isnt that bad. they seems completely merge with the flooring timber beam and become a whole. also creating different ceiling height to distinguish the transition area and the  place where Gehry love to stay for a whole afternoon with a cup of tea.

Project1-Gehry House

Frank Gehry, Santa Monica California, 1978

Start modelling after study the confusing plans and also reading about the house. We decide to have the section cut along the edge of the roof as this can clearly show the old house and the surrounding new area created by Gehry. Also people can experience the house by looking at the backyard place through the living room, and try to understand why he will remove the covering of walls, how light effect will that be from the old house, and also in the new area. This is the base of the model (the new area can be separated as we think its important to show how it was look like and what did Gehry do to modified it.)
the model is previously made in 1:100 scale, however after we move on to the stud wall and  frame of glazing at the back. We found out that in 1:100 it is hard to show the  details and the relationship between the interior and exterior, which is the key of this house.

Redo the model in 1:50 with Foam
