Mapping zones in the site, Materiality of the building & psychological relationship
Drawing shows the different zones of Gehry's residence
Set of models indicates 3 layer of area, how Gehry put the addition which is wrapping the old house, and using different materials to shows the public to more private space

Set of drawings shows psychological meaning and choice of materials in different area and trying to show every part of the buildings are combined by thousand ideas of Gehry when designing the house.
Urban content, the relationship between the house and the surrounding, the view and geometry of the openings

Drawing shows the plants around the site. showing the height of surrounding trees become a factor when Gehry design the openings for the addition.

the view from the addition to the street and indicate the sill height is higher than  the eye level on the ground floor to keep people focus to the nature.

shows the changing levels between the old house and the addition and the surreal feeling created by the window frame of the old house. When people sitting in the new area and look back to the old house through the windows, it looks like watching a show and people inside the house are on stage.

Light Quality, Factors drive the setting of openings & the relationship between the interior and exterior

Old house- Stud wall with cladding

Removing the Cladding

With Glazing, you can see the light quality in the new area is really good and there is enough natural light in side the old house as well.

model experiment the light quality of the interior and the warm atmosphere cerated by the shadow of timber stud after Gehry remove the cladding and add the glazing.

Set of models shows the shape of the openings and how Gehry's are different to normal openings.

Project1-FinalPresentation

Project1-FinalModel

The most interesting part of this model is the material we choose.
We choose foam board for the main material is because we want to clearly distinguish the timber stud wall inside the old house and those fencing and chain link are try to make them look real. We also used transparent plastic sheet to make the glazing, so people can see which area is enclosed, where actually connects to other area.
And you can see the model can be separated to three parts, an important reason behind. Although it makes the model hard to make, we still keep this design because it is the best way to look at the Gehry House.
the site, the new part, and the old house
from this model, we can see wt Gehry added to the old house, how the house originally looked like (although the roof and walls are modified by him, still can hv a rough concept of that), how the new combined with the ex. All of these can be clearly showed by the model.
Maybe this is not the best model with greatest model making skills, but we do think it represents Gehry House in the best way.
